What are the most popular vintage diamonds?

28th February 2025 By Coby Shalev

Vintage diamonds are highly sought after for their unique cuts, history, and craftsmanship. The most popular vintage diamond cuts and styles include:

1. Old European Cut (Late 1800s – Early 1900s)

  • Round, but with a smaller table and a high crown
  • Produces a soft, romantic glow
  • Often found in antique engagement rings from the Edwardian and Art Deco eras

2. Old Mine Cut (1700s – Late 1800s)

  • Predecessor to the Old European cut
  • Cushion-like shape with a deep pavilion and high crown
  • Hand-cut, giving each stone a unique character

3. Rose Cut (1500s – 1900s)

  • Flat bottom with a faceted dome
  • Resembles the petals of a rose
  • Produces a soft, subtle sparkle

4. Asscher Cut (1902 – Art Deco Era)

  • Square with step-cut facets, similar to an emerald cut
  • Popular during the Art Deco period
  • Known for its deep clarity and geometric beauty

5. Emerald Cut (1920s – Present)

  • Rectangular shape with long step-cut facets
  • Highly popular in vintage Art Deco rings
  • Focuses on clarity rather than sparkle

6. Marquise Cut (1700s – Present)

  • Originally commissioned by King Louis XV of France
  • Long, narrow shape with pointed ends
  • Gives the illusion of a larger stone

7. Transitional Cut (1930s – 1940s)

  • The bridge between Old European and Modern Round Brilliant cuts
  • Retains vintage charm but with improved light performance
